Update 5-28

Happy Memorial Day!

I was laying in bed the other night thinking that it wasn’t by accident that God allowed the wealthiest country in the world to have the most religious freedom.  Perhaps God expects us as His Church to use our religious freedom and wealth to impact the world around us and proclaim Christ boldly to all those who we see.  Our family for one is so thankful for all the men and women who have made our freedom possible.

This week has been AMAZING and hard all at the same time.  First of….

AMAZING – I was able to let work know about our plans to Belize and everyone has been so encouraging.  On Monday when I told my management, I had no less than 5 or so people at work come up and say that they were thinking and praying for me.  Even right as I was walking down the hallway to the meeting someone told me they were praying for me.   I honestly felt the Bible come alive when I was walking down the hallway….”Since you are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses…” It was awesome!  Thank you!  The conversation was a “success” and it is bittersweet that my last day employed as a Chemical Engineer is June 15th!  WOW~

Next … HARD – Amy and I have started to pack the house.  I give her a hard time because she is slow to pack taking a look back and reliving many memories we have had here.  We built this house 6 years ago with the intention not to move.  We built without any kids, have had 2 kids here, hosted numerous bible studies, parties, and it is just where we have done life for the past 6 years.  We will miss the house.  BUT….we know that life isn’t a house.  It is the people around us. We have started to have our night-time calendar fill up with dinners with good friends.  We are sad about leaving them!  Our friends and family are what have made life so amazing for the past 6 ½ years of marriage!  We are sad to leave them back here but excited for everyone to see us in Belize!  Note: if you want to get dinner, lunch, coffee, etc. before we leave send us an email!

  • Belize: Continue to pray for summer trips.  They start in ONE WEEK!  Pray for thousands of Belizeans and the missionaries to come to know Jesus this summer!  Pray for Boldness in each team in proclaiming Jesus!

    • Moving – We are out of our house on June 16th.  Pray for us as we pack up (Amy and I both have our own opinions on how things should be packed).  Pray for our marriage. Pray that we are able to work diligently at night but make time for each other and rest!

Thank you everyone so much for those of you who read this and have committed to supporting us through your prayers.  We are so thankful and encouraged by your uplifting words, notes, emails, tweets.  We love you all!

Edmonds Update 5-21

Friends / Family / Well-wishers / Prayer Partners.

It was a big week on our journey to Belize.  This past Thursday our house was officially closed on!  Praise God!  Also, we had some really great conversations with Praying Pelican about hard and fast plans for the summer.  It’s almost like this is starting to feel “real” for us!  We will be living in Belize in the very near future!  WOW!

Today I was in church and we were singing the lyrics “We will overcome by the blood of the Lamb and the word of our testimony.  Everyone overcome!”  And I just lost it.  Tears were streaming down my face as I was reminded of where I have come from by His Blood and His redeeming grace!  Then I realized that I haven’t shared with you my full testimony (Alas this is an update for another email!) Stay Tuned.

For today I wanted to share with you the 3rd installment of what we will be doing in Belize!

What will we be doing in Belize!?! – Part 3 of 3 (well until I learn of more stuff)

As a review in Belize we will be….

1.        Serving / Encouraging / Meeting / partnering with Local pastors and churches

2.        Preparing for, leading, and following up with short-term Praying Pelican mission teams

3.        Being ourselves. Christian marriage, Christian family, etc ingrained in the culture as much as possible.

Now onto to the “last piece.”  I say last because well it is all that we have come up with thus far.  Praying Pelican Missions is so gracious and concerned about anointing and giftedness and its fit into where they as an organization feel God calling them that we will be doing things we feel a particular passion / giftedness for.  How awesome is that?!?!  I get to do ministry in Belize in a area I feel particularly called and gifted?  Seriously!?

For those that know us, both Amy and I are HUGELY passionate about kids and youth.  In fact, I just stepped down as the Children’s Pastor at Starting Point Church in March / April and Amy was a middle school teacher before having Madeline and JoJo.  I have a desire to partner with Belizean pastors to reach the next generation of Belizeans.  I desire to see God proclaimed BOLDLY on the lips of 5 year olds, 10 year olds, 18 years olds because they grew up being taught JESUS on THEIR LEVEL in a way THEY CAN UNDERSTAND.

I truly believe that children and youth know more people that 2 or 3 adults put together.  I believe that if we can reach children with Jesus we can reach their family.  If we reach their family we reach their street, their community, their school, and their city.  When we reach a city, we can reach a district, and when we reach a district we can reach the country.  The country the world.  It all can start with reaching kids.

There are some AMAZING pastors radically impacted kids and youth for Jesus in Belize.  I can’t wait to come alongside of them and partner in any way that God allows!

Praises & Prayer Requests

  • Belize: Summer trips are about 2 weeks away for Praying Pelican in Belize!  Pray for Divine appointments and honestly pray for a modern day Pentacost this summer.  Pray for thousands of Belizeans and missionaries come to know Jesus this summer!
  • Financial support raising:  PRAISE GOD!  We are at 81% funded for $2500/month goal!  God has literally blown us away.  He has exceeded all expectations and prayers.  Praise God for providing for us!  We are praying earnestly that we can be at 100% funded by June 15th!  We know we have just a little bit to go and we are confident the Lord WILL provide!

If you are considering partnering with us financially, please contact me (Joshua.m.edmonds@gmail.com) or 919.306.7667.  Amy or I would love to share with you how you can partner with us in ministry.

  • YARD SALE: The Yard sale was a HUGE success thanks to Amy.  There was no rain and after all is said and done God met our prayer goal of $1000.
  • Spiritual Warfare: Madeline continues to wake up screaming from night terrors during her nap and at night.  Please continue to pray for her to rest in Christ’s peace and pray for Christ to protect her from any attacks from the Enemy!
  • Tomorrow at 2PM – Tomorrow at 2PM I will be talking with my employer.  Just pray for God’s hand to be all over that conversation.

The Bible says in Romans “How can they believe if they haven’t heard?” That is probably the best reason that I can think of for going to Belize.  They haven’t heard and I am praying that through our partnership with the local pastors and churches that they will hear and believe!

Because they haven’t heard,

Edmonds Family!

Edmonds Update 5-9

I’ll Have Another, won the Kentucky Derby.  I thought about the name of that horse and really thought to myself that the Lord has ridiculously blessed us over this past week!  So yes Lord I’ll have another one of those blessings please.  Just this past week God has brought us to 61% support raised or pledged, Amy’s wisdom tooth extraction took less than 5 minutes, and we now have identified a place for us to live…a house inBelize!  I wanted to take this update and just Praise God for his anointing all over our process and our family!  Thank you Jesus! And Thank you all for continued prayers!

Also, sorry this update is way way way late!  This week has been crazy!  I have worked nonstop for the past week, we are gearing up for our yard sale, and well just parenting 2 of the best kids on the planet and of course MOTHER’S DAY!

Nonetheless, we’ll get out an update later in this week as well!  But for now our family chooses to celebrate all the great things the Lord has done.  When thinking through this update, we thought of Psalm 71:8

My mouth is filled with your praise, declaring your splendor all day long

Praises & Prayer Requests

  • Belize: We are training our Belizean staff for the summer of mission trips.  Pray that training goes well and that the Lord begins to prepare the hearts of those mission teams and the hearts of Belizeans all over the country to experience the glory of the Living God in a radical way!
  • Financial support raising:  PRAISE GOD!  We are at 61% funded for $2500/month goal!  God exceeded our target to be 50% funded by the end of last weekend.  We are praying earnestly that we can be at 100% funded by June 15th!  We know we have a long way to go but we also know the Lord WILL provide!

We have contacted MANY of you by email, phone, and letter asking you to prayerfully consider supporting us financially.  We ask to please respond one way or the other.  If you are considering partnering with us financially, please contact me (Joshua.m.edmonds@gmail.com) or 919.306.7667.  Amy or I would love to share with you how you can partner with us in ministry.

  • Amy Medical: Praise I think Amy is done with all her appointments and medical procedures!  Her wisdom tooth extraction was a success!
  • YARD SALE: Amy and I are having a HUGE YARD / MOVING SALE this Saturday.  Pray for generous people to come, pray for NO RAIN, and pray that we can raise $1000 towards our support!
  • Spiritual Warfare: I know it happens, will happen, and is happening to us! Madeline wakes up every day screaming from night terror during her nap and at night.  Please pray for her to rest in Christ’s peace and pray for Christ to protect her from any attacks of the Enemy!

We want you all to know that God is so good.  ALL THE TIME!  Rest in the promises of the Bible and have no fear.  A song I love says “We will overcome by the blood of the Lamb And the word of our testimony, everyone overcome.”  I look forward to celebrating with you all the many things we have overcome through Christ!  Praise God!

Picture Post

Life in the Edmonds house has been a little crazy with Josh’s work schedule and everything that has to get done to move and support raising, so here are some pictures of what the kids have been up to.

Playing in the pool in the backyard.  Joseph loves water just as much as Madeline.

Madeline LOVES puzzles.  She thanks God for them everyday, after she prays for Pepaw because he is always first on the list.

What Joseph looks like when Josh feeds him.  He lets Joseph feed himself some.  I love the fact that Josh lets him do it because I am always worried about the mess.

Joseph looking handsome.

When you have boxes laying around to move, make a castle out of them of course.

Update 5-3

Cinco de Mayo! Or least almost. And the Kentucky Derby. I don’t know about you all but Amy and I love watching the Kentucky Derby on TV and picking our horse to win the race. It feels like we are invested in the race when we are cheering on a horse with a funny name. I can’t imagine what the horse and jockey feel like with all those people yelling, screaming, surrounding and encouraging them to run the race, finish!

Our walk with Christ is a lot like that. Honestly, Amy and I feel like a race horse right now as we move toward relocating to Belize. We feel like we are running 100-miles per hour. We may feel overworked, overly busy, and tired at times, but we are encouraged. We are encouraged by you all, our friends, family, prayer warriors. You are the ones yelling, screaming, surrounding, and encouraging us!

As Amy and I feel discouraged or anxious or tired, we are reminded of Hebrews 12:1-2
Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us, fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith

We know that not only do we have our witnesses in the sky but also you all as encouragement on the ground, saying continue, march forward. Thank you! Your encouragement is such a blessing!

What we will do (installment 2 of 3)? Answer: Leading our Family
From observations that Amy and I have made and follow-up conversations we have had with local pastors, Belizeans in the villages, and other Praying Pelican Missions employees, one of the biggest needs in Belize is Christian male leadership. Men are absent from the church, the home, and the family. As you can imagine this permeates through Belize and has many lasting consequences such as gang violence, teenage pregnancy, emotional brokenness, etc.

Amy and I desire to understand this concept and help provide encouragement through living our lives as examples. I desire to model a husband loving his wife like Christ loves the church. Amy desires to honor me as her husband. We both desire to raise our children in the way of the Lord. Our family is far from perfect and we don’t have it all together, but we strongly desire to live and lead our family in the way of the Lord. It’s important to note we won’t do this in a vacuum. We plan to have anyone over to visit, eat, share who wants to come over. We plan to be in the local community, playing basketball, visiting with neighbors, and learning where / why / how they are hurting. Through our family leadership and being part of the community, we are begging God to open up doors and conversations to start to heal, help, restore the family unit of Belize and men to the local church.

Prayer Requests
• Belize: Gang violence is still prominent, especially in and around the Belize City area. Continue to pray for quelled violence and for the community leaders working to restore “normalcy” to the area.
• Financial support raising: PRAISE GOD! We are at 45% funded for $2500/month goal! We are targeting to be at 50% funded by the end of the weekend. We do have a LONG way to go to our overall June 15th goal!
We are targeting being fully-funded by June 15th.
• Amy Medical: Amy is getting a wisdom tooth removed tomorrow (Friday). She plans to do this without anesthesia. BEAST!!! Pray for her please!

Seriously, we love you all very much and look forward to Jesus to see where He is leading us. This is impossible without your prayers and support. Praise God for each of you! If we can pray for you in any way, please let us know!

Some Pics from this Week:

Madeline LOVES her swimming pool.

Joseph really wants to get those toys but can’t figure out how to get them.
