Last Post Living in the US

Freaking out!  In exactly 135 hours we will be in Belize.  Counting down hours now??  Emotions cannot even be explained into words.  My friend and a spiritual mentor, Jeremy asked “What has God been up to?”

Since well 2007 then 2009 then October of last year and then our first blog post of 2/20 this year, God has been up to the bringing us to the moment when 135 hours from now we will be in Belize….to LIVE.  STILL freaking out!!!!

In the last little bit, God has sold our house.  God has provided for us financially.  God has given us peace.  God has placed an insatiable excitement in everyone in our family to move.  God has literally brought us to the moment where we move.  135 hours.  That’s all that’s left.  Whew…..I honestly don’t even know what to say.

Pray for us this week as we pack our bags.

Pray for us on September 3rd as we move.

Pray that the Hurricane has not derailed our shipment.

Pray that our house is set up with utilities on.

Pray for our kids, our marriage, our discipline, and our ability to follow God with this step to move and then whatever the next step is.  We have NO IDEA what God has for us once we get down there.

The only thing that provides any comfort is that the God of Wonders, Lord of Lords, and King of Kings is guiding our family’s every step.  Well…let’s see what’s next!

God taught me through music this afternoon

Today after a particular emotional phone call.  I started to weep (sorry to ruin my tough guy image).  I just opened up the computer and started to type out a prayer or more appropriately a cry to God.  The Lord just spoke to me and said” listen to music” so I started to listen to some worship.  These were the lyrics that the Lord brought to me.

  • Water you turned into wine, opened the eyes of the blind.  There’s no one like you.
  • Lord give me faith to trust what you say…I may be weak but your spirit’s strong in me.
  • God of wonders beyond our galaxy, you are holy.  You are holy. Precious Lord reveal your heart to me. Father holy.  Father holy.
  • I stand with arms high and heart abandoned in all of the one who made it all….all I am is yours.

The reality is THE LORD has revealed His heart to our family.  His heart is for Belize to come to know the Lord.  He has a burden for those people and has given us the vision that Belize is the key to Central America.  The reality is this same Lord…the God of Wonders turned water into wine, opened the eyes of the blind and many other miracles.  He has performed miracles and continues to.  His heart is for Belize.  His heart is for our family to be used in Belize.  As I was listening and crying more…it hit me.  BOOM.  All I am is yours Lord. All I have.  My stuff, my talent, my treasure, my marriage, my family….everything, absolutely everything is yours Lord.

And the fact is, He is for us.  God is for us.  As long as we are seeking His will, nothing can or will stop us.  My prayer is that even though I am weak and am freaking out that I still eagerly seek God’s will…I pray that on Monday as we take off that I am standing there in line boarding the plane saying “All I am , all I have is yours God.”

Praise God for music, for encouragement, and for overcoming my weakness.

Praises and Prayer Requests:

  • THE MOVE – Sep 3rd.  Pray for smooth flights, happy travelers – just God’s hand of protection (physically, emotionally, spiritually)
  • OUR MARRIAGE – Our marriage is great…really more than great.  It is truly the most amazing blessing in my life apart from salvation through grace.  However, I would be silly not to acknowledge that the next little bit will be stressful on us.  Pray that we seek Christ first and rest in His love for us and our love for each other.  Pray that this time strengthens us.
  • HEALTH – Jojo was VERY sick last night.  Pray he gets better and no catches the stomach bug that he had.
  • LOGISTICS – specifically that our house is set up with utilities, that our stuff get to our house Hassel free
  • OPEN HEARTS – That the Lord would prepare the hearts of Belizeans everywhere.  That our example of Christ’s love and the sharing of His Word would fall on fertile soil!

Thank you so much.  Rest assured that if Our God is for us….NO ONE, NOTHING can stand against us.  Our next update may be delayed for a little bit but the next one will be from Belize!  Pray hard with us and for us through this time.

Adventure Update 8-20-2012

20-Aug-2012   We have officially entered the “OH NO,  We are going to Belize in 2 weeks!!!!” portion of this adventure.  As I am sitting in Panera writing this update, it is 2:32PM Eastern Time (12:32PM Belize Time). In two weeks, we will be going through Customs with everything in tow and getting ready to head to our HOUSE!!

Rustling up a mental picture…I am thinking of the Home Alone kid splashing aftershave on his face and then screaming AHHHHH.  Seems like the 2 weeks left realization has gotten my attention and the other night Amy and I looked at each other and said AHHHH.  Well God, here goes nothing.

We just got through a great week of hanging out together and spending time with quality friends and family.

Last week… Was busy with Amy’s birthday, my mom’s birthday, a trip to the zoo, speaking to the women’s group for my grandma, and a trip to Raleigh!  It was a great great great week!  Thank you so much for praying us through last week!

This week… Is filled with visits to Burlington (3 times), visits with family (2), dinner with friends, OH and packing for Minnesota travels next week.  That’s what’s going on with our family this week.  Well that and packing to move to Belize!  Continue to pray us through this INSANELY BUSY season!

On the home front… (Individual updates this week)

  • Madeline …enjoyed a great trip to zoo (see pictures).  She loved some of the animals (mainly seals, elephants, and giraffes).  More than that she LOVED the statues of the animals!  Also, we talk about Belize A LOT.  Madeline asks every day, multiple times a day, “Daddy are we going to Belize today?” Or “Daddy you come to Belize with me?”  That little girl is excited to tell other people about Jesus in Belize.
  • Jojo – is walking while being held, crawling, and talking a TON. He loves most table food and especially black beans (see pics)
  • Amy – Turned 29…she says she is old!  She had a great birthday in Raleigh this past weekend (thank you everyone).

How God has been teaching me this week!

  • Pray Like Jesus – Just this past Sunday I  heard message in a series at Starting Point Church.  The message was on praying like Jesus, specifically the prayer in the Garden of Gethsemane.  And the prayer was “Not my will but YOUR’S be done.”  As we have stepped out into this adventure, we are truly relying on God’s will to be done in our lives for the first time.  We are trusting in the loving providence of our Father that His will is perfect for our lives.  I am praying constantly that my ideas, our family’s ideas, our will does not get in the way of relying on God’s Will for the country of Belize.  I desire God’s will for Madeline and Jojo (even when it doesn’t line up with mine).  Pray for our family discipline that we don’t cloud God’s Will with our own thoughts, ideas and plans!

Praises and Prayer Requests: Belize

  • Pray for the meetings that I will begin to have in two weeks with pastors as we get to know their needs.
  • Pray for Amy and the meetings that she will begin to have with the women of Belize.
  • Pray for our children that they begin to befriend Belizean children quickly.
  • Pray that Belizeans’ hearts are open to hearing of Jesus through our family’s outpouring of His love to Belize.

Personal

  • Busyness – We are busy this week before I head to MN for a staff meeting.  Pray that we get everything done that we want / need to.  More than that pray for our discipline to make the Lord our priority and not a task!  Continue to pray!!!
  • Moving Anxiety – We move September 3rd.  Continue lifting up that day, the plane ride, getting through customs, and getting to our house.  Pray that our house is set up with water, electricity, internet, and that our goods get to our house QUICK!  We will probably be about a week without ANYTHING, beds too! PRAY HARD THAT OUR STUFF GETS THERE HASSEL FREE!

Support:

  • We are already fundraising for next year (we are at 10% funded for next year already).  Fundraising for next year has slowed.  Pray that I am able to carve out a couple of hours for it this week.  Pray for at least one new financial partner this week. Please pray for this effort that we are at 40% by the end of the calendar year.    If you haven’t financially supported us yet and would like to, it is never too late. Message me for details!

Thank you.  You all are more than “supporters”; you all are partners with us in ministry.  We can’t wait to get to Belize on the ground and start sharing with you the miracles made possible through your support!   Because they haven’t heard, Edmonds Family

Family Update 8 – 13 – 2012

Back from vacation.  Amy and I were so blessed to be able to take a vacation to Holden Beach this past week with my parents, Mama Teetle and Papa Jay (my grandparents) and Christian (my nephew).  Before that we even got to go to Bennett’s (another nephew) Pirate Birthday party.   Here are the highlights!

At the birthday party…

Madeline rode rides for the first time and LOVED it.  She has not stopped talking about the carousel, boats, or cars!  When she was picking out what car to ride in , she immediately ran over to the big green John Deer truck.  Who knew this city boy would be raising a good country girl!

At the beach….

Well at the beach we played in the sand some and in the water A LOT!  Madeline has NO FEAR of the water so needless to say that she kept us on our toes!  We jumped waves, played in the surf and looked for many animals and seashells!  JoJo ate a lot of sand and was in general in sensory overload!  Amy and I enjoyed spending time with the parents, watching the Olympics, and playing games with the family (my dad won too many of them so I am sure that he was cheating!)

Now….

We are back at mom and dad’s house trying to squeeze in everything we want / need to do before we fly out on September 3rd!  AHHHH so close!  SO we are balancing our time with some work for me, fun stuff for the family (e.g. zoo tomorrow), and things we need to do like pack and go to the doctor!  Busy times for our little family!

How God has been teaching me this week!

  • Through the teaching of others! We had a great message yesterday at Revo Church on Matthew 7.  (quick side note: if you are in the Winston / Clemmons area and don’t have a church seriously consider Revo Church…relevant teaching, great kid’s ministry and wonderful people).  Anyway, the message was about being judgemental and hypocritical.  You all know the story….plank in your own eye when trying to pick out the splinter in someone else’s eye!  Well Pastor said that our judging usually is born out of our own unaddressed sin.  He said that if we spent the day addressing our planks and working on becoming more like Jesus, we wouldn’t have any time to judge others!  This week my prayer is to be made more aware of the sin in my own life and for the Lord to give me the discipline and discernment to address it!  Will you join with me in praying for this?
  • Personal study – On the recommendation of a couple of spiritual mentors of mine (although they probably don’t realize it), I am reading two books right now Surprised by Hope and King Jesus Gospel.  It’s too early to tell how these books will teach me and shape me.  But I do feel the Lord speaking to me through these two books….more to come I am sure!

Praises and Prayer Requests:

  • Busyness – This week is full.  We are speaking to a women’s group for my grandmother today.  We are going to zoo tomorrow, doctor Wednesday, Amy’s birthday is Thursday, Raleigh this weekend. Pray that we get everything done that we want / need to.  More than that pray for our discipline to make the Lord our priority and not a task!

Update 8-1-2012

So who has been watching the Olympics??  I was so excited when I was in Belize and realized that I would be back at my parent’s house for the ENTIRE Olympics.  Let’s just say that my parents are a little tired of cycling, badmitton, and rowing!  We (me and Amy) have watched A LOT of Olympics. In fact, this update was supposed to go out last night but I got sucked into the US Women’s Gymnastic Team Finals!  Oh and the last Olympic story is that Madeline LOVES tennis.  Not even sure why but whenever we turn on the Olympics she asked to “watch tennis please” and then oohhs and ahhhs at every shot!  The next Serena Williams?  We shall see!

How God has been teaching me this week!

So I have been reading through the Gospels since the beginning of July. Currently I have read Mark and am almost done with Luke.  While there are  A LOT of things I would love to share about how God is teaching me through the Gosepls (humanity of Jesus, authority of Christ, humility of Christ, etc.), I do have two quick things I want to share and challenge you all with this week.

  1. Lost People Matter to God.  Literally, I mean that people who don’t know God matter to God.  God desires more than anything for those people who don’t have a relationship with Him to have a relationship with Him.  Seriously, take some time today to read Luke 15 (specifically verses 7, 10, 20).  Those verses say that there is literally celebration IN THE PRESENCE OF ANGELS.  Who is in the presence of angels? Answer – GOD!  God literally is joyed when 1 person moves into a relationship with Him.
    • Why should this matter?  A church I listen to always says Found People Find People.  IF we are truly following the Lord, then we are sharing our faith, we are seeking people far from God and sharing our story with the goal to bring them into a relationship with God.  Lost people are at God’s heartbeat, they matter to God; therefore, they matter to His people.
    • What Should I do?  Get specific.  Praying for “Lost people” is easy.  They can be in Papua New Guinea or Belize or any where.  But I would say there are people that you see, talk to every day, that don’t have a relationship with the Lord.  Write (1) person’s name down and start praying for that person by name each daythat he/she would surrender themselves and enter into a relationship with the one and only worthy Lord!
  2. Purpose Driven Life – Cliche I know and probably about 10 years old….BUT the point is a good one.  I was reading Luke 17 and read the following:

And he said to his disciples, “Temptations to sin are sure to come, but woe to the one through whom they come! It would be better for him if a millstone were hung around his neck and he were cast into the sea than that he should cause one of these little ones to sin. (Luke 17:1-2 ESV)

  • My previous purpose (just wanted to use alliteration) My purpose, my drive in college was to fulfill the verses in Luke 17:1,2.  My goal for ALL of college was to “corrupt” or “cause the people in my sphere of influence” to sin.  I provided alcohol and party environments and encouraged people to sin until their hearts content to NOT deny themselves anything.  WOW!  The Lord says it was better for me to be dead than to be in the life that I was living in college.
  • But wait there’s more….GOD REDEEMED ME from that life!  God picked me up out of the mire clay and set my feet upon on the rock. And now our family is going into the mission field to proclaim Christ boldly in Belize.  Nothing but the blood and power of Jesus can do that?
  • SO WHAT? Answer the question for your life…what is your drive?  What is your purpose?  Now I know everyone is not called into missions or ministry full time BUT some MAY be.  Also, answer the question are you being driven by God or by man?  Take heart because if God could use me, the chiefest of sinners, to proclaim Him, he can and wants to REDEEM you to a full life in Him.

On the home front:

  •  Madeline is yelling “NO” A LOT.  Please pray for this to stop immediately and for us to have patience with her as we work through this.
  • Madeline LOVES Fancy Nancy books and the Dora the Explorer book in Spanish.  She loves building trains and watching TENNIS!
  • Jojo is crawling / scooting everywhere, including upstairs!
  • Amy and I are doing well and ready for our vacation with the WHOLE family to the beach this coming week!
Praises and Prayer Requests:
Belize
  • Summer Trips are coming to a close.  Pray for our teams that are serving this week in Belize and for the Praying Pelican Missions Staff serving with these teams for the next two weeks.  Pray specifically for the team from Hope Community Church serving in Sandhill village.  Pray for their leader Mr. Jeff and for the team to Boldly proclaim Jesus.  Pray for 10 people in Sandhill / Rootsville to surrender their lives to Jesus and 15 to be obedient in Baptism.
  • Returning staff – We have a LOT of staff returning to the States from time in various countries (including Belize).  Pray for these staff as they get adjusted to being back at home.  Pray most of all for protection from Satan and his attacks.  Spiritual warfare is real and really scary.  Pray for protection on these men and women of God!
  • Local church sustainability – As our teams exit Belize for the summer, pray for the local churches and local pastors.  Pray that they would  continue to be encouraged and would be able to sustain the ministry and Be strong and courageous as teams leave their villages.
Personal

  • Shipment of Goods – Still some mild anxiety in our house about the shipment of our goods.  Pray that this goes smoothly and we get our goods quickly in Belize!
  • Parenting – see above.  Parenting is challenging right now especially with Madeline. I believe that her attitude shift is partly being two and a half and part spiritual warfare. Pray for patience and perseverance.
  • BEACH – we are going to the beach on Saturday for ONE WEEK!  Pray for rest, relaxation, and a great time with my whole family (mom, dad, grandma, grandpa,  and Christian – nephew)
  • Be in Raleigh – Amy and I are going to be in Raleigh the weekend of either August 18th or 25th.  Let me know if you all would like to meet up!
Support:
  • Amy and I are currently living off of support.  We are still waiting on 3-4 one time gifts to come in.  We really need those one-time gifts to come in before we can move to Belize.  So please go ahead and log on to the PPM website or see the attachment to give your one – time gift.  Also, if you are supporting us monthly be sure to check that your support is coming in each month as you have designated it.
